Methodology

The approach we take to Project Management is driven by our desire to provide both effective and efficient delivery of projects to our customers.  We see that projects are one of the key platforms for the generation of strategic value in any organisation, including our own. 

Alphawest manages its customers' projects using an in-house developed Project Management methodology based on the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK®).  The methodology is both flexible and scalable and helps customers to recognise the value from their projects.

Successful delivery of projects is not a simple thing to achieve.  Studies of thousands of projects by The Gartner Group suggest that more than 30% fail outright and are cancelled, at huge cost, whilst nearly all of the remainder suffer overruns of time and/or budget.

The Alphawest Project Management Framework

We know that having a structured approach to Project Management significantly reduces the risk of failure.  To that end we have built a Project Management Framework that provides a flexible Project Management solution that adapts to the unique needs of each project.  Based on the PMI's PMBoK®, the Alphawest Project Management Framework (APMF) provides the structure within which our team of professional project managers operate. 

APMF is designed to be flexible and provides the ability to integrate with other Project Management frameworks such as PRINCE2.

APMF defines the phases, activities and management deliverables required to successfully deliver a project from concept to closure. 

APMF ensures that your project:

  • has a clearly defined and mutually agreed plan.
  • has a clearly defined and comprehensive project plan.
  • is managed effectively using established processes to monitor and control all aspects of the project.

While based on PMBoK®, APMF extends the  concepts in PMBoK®, by adding greater depth through blending the structure of PMBoKs® with the principles learnt from the real world experience of our team of Project Managers.  APMF is continually updated and improved based on the every day experiences of our team and our customers' experiences.

APMF defines each Project Management activity and deliverable in detail, ensuring that that our projects are managed in a structured quality and value driven manner. 

In turn, this enables us to quickly and efficiently create high-quality deliverables for your project.

A Scalable Solution

We recognise that no two customers or projects are the same. Every project is assessed using tools from the APMF to determine the optimal approach to managing the project. Based on this assessment, the governance approach is defined and agreed by all parties during the initial stages of the project.

The APMF is a structured approach to managing projects that helps to reduce the risk of failure and improves the effectiveness of solution delivery.  Using a Project Management framework helps ensure that:
