About VMware
VMware (NYSE: VMW) is the global leader in virtualisation solutions from the desktop to the datacentre—bringing cloud computing to businesses of all sizes. Customers rely on VMware to reduce capital and operating expenses, ensure business continuity, strengthen security and go green. With 2008 revenues of $1.9 billion, more than 130,000 customers and more than 22,000 partners, VMware is one of the fastest growing public software companies. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, VMware is majority-owned by EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC).
Cisco and VMWare have developed a comprehensive strategic alliance incorporating product co-engineering, integrated services, and go-to-market strategies. Their combined vision is to help mutual customers accelerate the transition to a virtualised data centre to achieve their business goals.
Cisco's bundled offering of the Cisco Unified Computing System and VMware’s vSphere, the industry's first cloud operating system, will help customers increase the promise of virtualisation with reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), increased business agility, and improved energy efficiency. This transformation enables the next generation of flexible, reliable IT services to be delivered both within internal clouds as well as from external clouds.

Alphawest’s participation in VMware’s Global vCloud Beta Program
Alphawest is one of approximately 15 companies globally to be involved in VMware’s global vCloud Beta program, and one of several service provider partners in Australia.
The vCloud Beta program is a pilot that Alphawest will run with a select group of customers for the delivery of cloud based infrastructure, allowing customers to self-service provision and upload virtual machines into the Alphawest cloud on the new generation MPLS-based Optus Evolve™ network.
Participating in the VMware vCloud Beta puts Alphawest in a leading position in the Australian cloud services market. In addition, Alphawest is one of the first Australian partners to be invited into the Cisco Data Centre Unified Computing Authorised Technology Provider programme and is collaborating with Cisco to help customers navigate the architecture transition to optimise virtualisation, reduce the total overall cost of the data centre and amplify business results.
Furthermore, Alphawest was the first Cisco partner in the Asia Pacific region to procure the Unified Computing System infrastructure.
In conjunction with VMware and other key vendor partners, Alphawest is focussed on providing its enterprise customers who are already utilising the Optus Evolve network with cloud services that can scale and improve computing performance, delivering greater value and efficiencies to our customers.
