SYDNEY — Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN) today announced that leading Australian information and communications technology services provider and wholly-owned subsidiary of Optus Networks Pty Ltd, Alphawest, will deliver Websense Hosted Email Security and Websense Hosted Web Security solutions as an on-demand service to its customers.

Alphawest will market its Websense offering as “Alphawest On-Demand Email Security” and “Alphawest On-Demand Web Security to companies wanting to reduce the impact that spam, phishing attacks, viruses and other malware can have on their limited bandwidth, hardware and IT resources.

Alphawest’s On-Demand Security services block unwanted email and web traffic before it even reaches the customer network, while helping to reduce demands on network capacity, maintenance and storage expenses for Alphawest On-Demand Security customers. These solutions also help enable Alphawest’s customers to reduce the cost and complexity of managing and maintaining in-house email and web security systems as there are no hardware, software, maintenance or upgrade costs.

These security services are hosted on Websense infrastructure which means that leading email and Web protection is provided away from the customer network, without any loss of control for the administrator. In addition, businesses can tap into the combined security expertise of Alphawest and Websense to reduce the need to employ security experts directly.

“Interest in on-demand security solutions continues to gather momentum as more and more organisations are beginning to understand the benefits of on-demand IT. Alphawest has long been recognised as one of the leaders in the IT services market, with long standing IT security expertise that makes them an ideal partner for Websense,” said Daniel Crnkovich, Channel and Alliances Manager, Australia and New Zealand, Websense.

Websense Hosted Security services are powered by the Websense® ThreatSeeker™ Network that uses both honeypots and advanced grid computing systems to parse through more than one billion pieces of content daily, searching for security threats. This gives Websense unparalleled visibility into the state of content on the Internet and provides Alphawest customers with up-to-date protection from unwanted content and malicious threats.

In the current economic climate organisations are looking to services, such as on-demand as a key way to resolve the challenge of managing their networks and security with limited budgets and resources. Alphawest On-Demand Security helps reduce customer anxiety about buying, maintaining and upgrading their own security equipment. By reducing the financial burden and management around IT security, our customers have the choice of greater quality and consistency of service to better protect their email and web services,” said Rob Parcell, CEO, Alphawest.

The on-demand email and Web security services market is set to boom over the next few years, not only in the SMB sector but exploding into enterprises.
