Deakin University is one of Australia’s largest universities with more than 32,000 students across campuses in Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool. The University started using HP TRIM in 2008, with implementation help and support from Alphawest, initially on a Windows platform only. However, as the system was being rolled out for records and document management in support of the Universities critical information management requirements, it became apparent that a number of departments were standardised on Mac operating systems for which there was no support.
In addition Deakin University had a requirement for remote web based access to all the features of TRIM. This led Alphawest to recommend that Deakin University trial Saffron, a rich web based application that is platform independent and runs across Windows, Apple and LINUX. Saffron is part of Alphawest’s investment in a portfolio of value added solutions for the wider Information Management market.
This suite is designed to improve user adoption and acceptance from large to small deployments and includes integrations and interfaces for a broad range of commonly used Windows and portal interfaces, for both business and technical users. Deakin began this trial in December 2008.
Martin Brandwyk, Project Manager ITSD Deakin University, commented, “In the initial trials Saffron performed extremely well and provided all the functionality we required for browser access into TRIM including Mac. Given that Deakin University is the first to trial Saffron in Australia, we were a bit cautious about support but we found Alphawest in conjunction with VersaPAC to be excellent, quickly responding to our queries and very willing to accept customer feedback for product enhancements”.
Stephen Wood, General Manager, Alphawest commented, “Alphawest continues to invest significantly in the area of electronic document and records management and develops services and managed solutions to help our customers achieve more from their existing investment. We are extremely pleased to have been able to give Deakin University the added functionality to their TRIM solution that Saffron provides. Alphawest has more than 250 TRIM customers in Australia, all of which have expressed a desire to add a solid web interface to their TRIM installations to give all the functionality an information worker needs. Saffron provides this in one easy to use interface.”
Alphawest will be showcasing Saffron, amongst its portfolio of Information and Process Management solutions at the HP TRIM User Forum in Coolum, Queensland, Australia during March 24th, 25th and 26th 2009.
