Alphawest SiteManager delivers the Commonwealth Office of the Status of Women faster and smarter publishing of information

SYDNEY, Australia, 10 April, 2003 - Alphawest, a leading Information Management solutions and IT services company, is pleased to announce the launch of the Women’s Portal developed using Alphawest’s SiteManager content management solution.

The Office of the Status of Women (OSW), part of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, selected Alphawest to develop and implement a customer-focused portal for women following an extensive evaluation process.  This customer focused portal initiative forms part of the National Office for the Information Economy’s Government Online strategy.

The project delivered an internet site that supports the Women’s Portal, together with the facility to manage OSW’s own corporate website.  Both sites are being delivered from a single content management solution and provide a range of functionality allowing OSW staff to easily publish material in a consistent and controlled environment.

The Women’s Portal will provide access to targeted information available across federal and some state government agencies that is of specific interest to women.  The discovery of these resources will be supported by accessing Australian Government Locator Service (AGLS) metadata gathered from participating agencies and stored on the portal site to provide a structured search capability.

The site, www.women.gov.au, was launched by the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women, Senator the Hon Amanda Vanstone, during the Women’s Speak Conference held in Canberra 30 March to 1 April 2003.

This project is a great result for Alphawest as it represents the first federal government website to be established using our locally developed SiteManager content management solution.

Implementation of the OSW website component is anticipated shortly.

Mr Garry Henley, Alphawest CEO says, “Alphawest is pleased to see our Australian developed product SiteManager being deployed to deliver valuable services and information to the Australian community.”

“Alphawest identified a need to develop a product that was cost effective, easy to implement and met the exacting requirements of federal government and corporations in relation to online publishing, accessibility and metadata support.  We are delighted that this Australian product is now servicing the needs of Australian government.”

Frank Wood, Project Manager, Alphawest, Canberra, said “We are pleased to be able to provide Australian women with a single access point to relevant information and services available from the various federal government agencies. Alphawest’s SiteManager allows staff to easily create and publish information in a flexible and timely manner without having to understand technical and coding requirements.  SiteManager provides the structure required to ensure consistency, usability and accessibility as well as the necessary controls to support currency.”
