Ian Smith is responsible for all aspects of Alphawest’s business including sales, operations and delivery. Alphawest, which Optus acquired in 2005, has experienced significant growth since its integration with Optus and is now one of the top ten IT services companies in Australia.
Ian’s focus is on continuing that growth by leveraging the synergies of the combined Optus and Alphawest businesses to provide innovative solutions to its corporate and government customer base.
Previously Ian held the position of General Manager of the Alphawest sales team nationally. Ian’s core focus was to promote and sell Alphawest ICT services and solutions to Optus customers throughout Australia.
Ian has worked in the IT industry for over 30 years, with over 15 years experience in a variety of senior management roles across marketing, sales and delivery. Ian is passionate about people, teamwork and communications. He has a reputation for getting results through strong leadership and a clear focus on business outcomes.
In 2000, Ian joined Optus Business to lead the sales and delivery team responsible for the strategic partnership with CSC. Over the next three years the CSC partnership generated revenues in excess of $100m.
In 2003, Ian joined the newly established Integrated Business Solutions (IBS) division within Optus Business, initially to set up the sales engagement with OB sales and subsequently to set up the centralised e2e design delivery for managed information and communication technology (ICT) services.
In October 2004, Ian was selected to lead the Optus team responsible for the merger and integration of Alphawest into the Optus group of companies. Following a successful merger Ian joined Alphawest as General Manager, Technology Solutions. Under Ian’s leadership, Technology Solutions achieved significant growth with annual revenues exceeding $200m in 2007. In November, 2008 Ian was appointed General Manager, Sales for Alphawest.
